What is menopause1?
Menopause is a significant stage of life that all women face as a natural part of aging and marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years and may also affect those who are transgender, non-binary or intersex.>
Menopause can be divided into several phases, each with distinct characteristics:
Many symptoms commonly associated with menopause actually begin during perimenopause. This transitional phase can begin several years before menopause. During perimenopause, estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate, often starting with irregular cycles. Other symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, and sleep disturbances can also be experienced during this time. This stage lasts until menopause is reached.1
