Impacts of Menopause on Women’s Health and Wealth

MetLife Australia 2024 menopause summary report

MetLife’s Study on the Impacts of Menopause

MetLife is working to better understand how we can support women experiencing perimenopause and menopause to manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life through access to MetLife 360Health.

The Research

One of the largest studies undertaken by an Australian life insurer on those experiencing menopause, the study explores the wide-ranging impacts and challenges of menopause health on lifestyle, employment, career progression, finances and retirement.* We want to shine a light on what can be done to help women stay connected to work, help close the super gap and improve their financial security.

40%

of women reported menopause has negatively impacted their financial situation, with this figure rising to 57% for those experiencing ‘severe’ symptoms.^

59%

of women believe employers have a responsibility to offer support, services or benefits to those experiencing menopause. Only 20% positively rate the support provided by their current/previous employer.^

It’s a real thing, that what we are going through can sometimes be debilitating for some women. Each of us have different experiences. Menopause for some is a breeze and for others is quite traumatic. For some it lasts a short while and for others can go on for years.

* MetLife Australia conducted in-depth online research with 1,058 women and non-binary individuals, aged between 35 to 64 years, who are either experiencing perimenopause or have reached menopause.
